Andréa Sands tends to work (and play) with a wide range of mediums, colors and textures, including, but not limited to acrylics, pen and ink, charcoal, textiles, paper, gold leaf, and digital transfers.

Some of her work’s colors and mediums hint at an influence of Gustav Klimt. Other pieces of her design suggest characters that might subtly remind the viewer of something akin to what Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec might have considered.

The extreme simplification in outline and movement and the use of layering colors, images and textures, make up some of her most powerful works.

“I think of the feeling I experienced when I first learned how to ride a bicycle.

I think of the eyes of a child seeing a magic trick, or playing peek-a-boo…that look of wonder and surprise, and I think that’s why I like creating art. It brings back that “first-time” feeling for me each time I create something new…and everything is new, so the wonder is inspiring, wonderful, and unlimited.

It’s basic. It’s a “need.” I’ve enjoyed creating art my entire life. I have been fortunate to learn from several talented instructors and continue to learn each time I approach the canvas. I love creating art. That’s really it: Art makes makes me feel good, and hopefully, the finished, end-product can produce the same feelings in others.”
