About Johns

 I find inspiration in the neighborhoods and places I have lived or visited, and my architectural training is reflected in my style and technique. My interpretation of famous buildings, homes, and landmarks are depicted by my use of lines, textures, geometric shapes and minute details to create exciting compositions that tell a story. I want viewers to come inside my paintings, peek into the windows, doors and buildings, and wander among the neighborhoods, living the tale that my work reflects. I work in oil over acrylic, or acrylic paint on canvas, where I use different textured sands and paste to create the illusion of depth and different building materials.

      I was born in Monterrey, Mexico and I have been pursuing my passion for art since early childhood. I graduated from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey with a degree in Architecture and Graphic Design. I lived in China for about 10 years where I worked on my art in my studio. I was an art teacher at Shanghai American School in Shanghai, China and at the Shekou International School in Shenzhen, China. Since China, I've lived in Rochester, New York; Houston, Texas; and finally Winter Garden, Florida. My paintings can be found both in private and corporate collections around the world including the United States, Mexico, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Norway, Spain and other countries in Europe. My art has been featured in various exhibitions including Art Expo New York and Contemporary Realism (Nan Miller Gallery). I have also been published in Art Business News. 

     In 2019, my work received the People’s Choice Award along with a Merit Award at the SoBo Art Gallery's Annual Top Choice Art Exhibition in Winter Garden, Florida.  I was also honored to be the feature artist  in the “Art of Architecture” exhibit at the Winter Garden City Hall.
