About Steele

“Experimentation is the key to my creative insight”

My technical background is in Sculpture with intensive training in several different media, and a concentration in metals (steel, stainless steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, and copper). I respect the raw beauty and durability of all metals, but am particularity drawn to copper for its color and flexibility. I develop my concepts using a direct method of color and design in a Minimalist manner. I work to enhance the metals natural properties by opposition in the application of color with enamel glass. Each section of glass is kiln fired at a temperature of 1500 degrees to maintain uniform characteristics, yet each piece is one-of-a-kind. The metal compositions deal with direct manipulation of space by cutting up the metal image and reconstructing it sectionally, emitting a technological and architectural presence combined with an elegant spiritual quality. Most of the copper pieces share a landscape reference, and the steel pieces relate to the structure of aircraft wings and rocket panels. All of my methods in glass are experimental and the metal patina colorations are original for each piece.
